The Bonita Springs Concert Band‘s first free concert of the season will be a Christmas concert on Sunday, December 13 at 2 p.m. at Riverside Park in downtown Old Bonita. Guest soloist Mark Sanders will perform “Santa Meets Sousa” and “Til I Hear You Sing Once More”, arranged by Rick DeJonge. DeJonge, who has been a popular guest conductor with the group in the past, will lead this Christmas treat.
The concert will follow CDC Covid guidelines. The group will be reduced to 45 members and will be socially distanced. The public is also asked to respect social distancing and wear a mask when entering and leaving the park. There will be no intermission.
Other songs include: “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer”, “Greensleeves”, “Tis the Season”, “Fantasy on Deck the Halls” and other great holiday tunes.
Guest soloist Mark Sanders spent 15 years in New York and now lives in Fort Myers. He has appeared in numerous productions and concerts around the world. He was seen as Perchik on the national Broadway tour of “Fiddler On The Roof” with Theodore Bikel. He became a favorite singer of the Gulf Coast Symphony performing at the Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall in Fort Myers, having shared the stage with Broadway stars Lisa Vroman, Christiane Noll, Melissa Errico, Morgan James, Doug LaBreque and performed in symphonic productions of Carousel, South Pacific and Oklahoma.
The Bonita Springs Concert Band is under the direction of Gary Smith who retired after 24 years as bandleader of the University of Illinois Marching Illini Band. This is the seventh season that Mr. Smith has led the group. “The talent of these musicians is immense, they are between 15 and 94 years old,” says Mr. Smith.
