Brazil Concert Band prepares for summer performances

BRAZIL, Indiana (WTWO / WAWV) – The Brazil Concert Band, which bills itself as “Indiana’s oldest continuous concert group”, will open in 2021 with programs in Forest Park, rain or shine, starting on June 6 and every Sunday until August 29 at 8 p.m.

Musicians in the region are invited to join the BCB by contacting Director Matthew Huber at [email protected] or (812) 691-1341. New members must be at least a first year high school student and own their group instrument. The first rehearsal will take place on Tuesday, June 1 at 7 p.m. at the Forest Park Band Shell or, in case of rain, at the Pavilion.

Director Huber has led the 65 members of the BCB since 1982 and is the longest-serving conductor in the group’s 163 years of service to the community.

The Brazil Concert Band traces its long history to 1858 and has performed across the United States. He has professionally recorded with two compact discs with Indiana March King Fred Jewell, and has received awards from local, state and national institutions, including the Sudler Silver Scroll for Historic Bands of the John Philip Sousa Foundation.

The June 6 concert, “The 75th Anniversary of the End of World War II,” was scheduled as last year’s finale but has been postponed due to the pandemic.

The patriotic program honoring America and our allies will include “The March from 1941” by John Williams, “Glenn Miller in Concert” arranged by Wayne Scott, “South Pacific” arranged by Philip Lang, “Victory at Sea” arranged by Robert R Bennett, “Man Behind the Gun” by John Philip Sousa, “The Homefront: Musical Memories from World War II” arranged by James Christensen and “Armed Forces Salute” by Bill Moffit, as well as “March of the Belgian Paratroopers” edited by John R. Bourgeois, “French National Defile” arranged by JS Seredy, “Royal Air Force March Past” by Henry Davies and George Dyson, “A Slavic Farewell” edited by John R. Bourgeois and “The Stars and Stripes Forever” by John Philippe Sousa.
