Jazz Ensemble, Chamber Winds, Concert Band perform

The Cornell Jazz Ensemble, Chamber Winds and Concert Band will perform in an outdoor concert at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday, April 28, on the terrace in front of the Kimmel Theater.

The students rehearse for the spring concert.

The concert is free and open to campus and to members of the local community. Members of the public are required to follow COVID-19 safety precautions and encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets. The Cornell College Music Facebook Page will broadcast the concert live (see recording).

The Jazz Ensemble is conducted by Jim Buennig and will perform pieces from various eras of jazz. Buennig is a saxophonist who has released five albums as an ensemble conductor and has presented his music in the United States and abroad.

Music teacher Joe Dieker will lead the Chamber Winds and Concert Band. The music will include selections by Gossec, Mendelssohn, Gordon Jacob and David Gillingham. Two student conductors, Adam Mitchell and Zachariah Collins, will lead the groups in performances of “Hosts of Freedom March” by Karl King and “Antoinette March” by Scott Joplin, arranged by Zachariah Collins.

The rainy date for this concert is April 29 at 3:15 p.m.
