The Pomona Concert Band will perform their annual holiday concert, “In the Holiday Mood”, at 3pm on Sunday December 19th.
The concert will be held at the G. Stanton Selby Bandshell, behind the Community Center building at Ganesha Park, 1575 N. White Ave., and is sponsored by the City of Pomona Community Services Department. This is the group’s first performance since December 2019, according to a press release.
Linda W. Taylor, band conductor and musical director, will lead the band, along with assistant conductors Jorge Garcia and Kerry Kline.
The master of ceremonies is David Allen, columnist for the Southern California News Group.
The holiday music concert will include “A Christmas Flourish” by James Curnow; “Merry Christmas” by Alfred Reed; “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” arranged by Douglas Wagner and featuring vocal soloist Isaac Gonzalez; “Three Moods of Hanukkah”, arranged by Lennie Niehaus; “I wish you a Merry Christmas,” arranged by William Rhoads; and music for the soundtrack to the 2004 film “The Polar Express”, arranged by Jerry Brubaker.
Admission is free and those present are invited to bring garden chairs.
G. Stanton Selby founded the Pomona Concert Band in 1947, and the group has represented the town of Pomona in many events over the years, including tours of Europe and Japan in the 1980s. The band members come from Pomona and more than 20 surrounding communities.
