New SBC Pop Orchestra features young and older musicians, some from the same family

November 29, 2021

The South Burnett Community Young Orchestra – a spinoff of the popular South Burnett Community Orchestra – has a new name.

The new “SBC Pop Orchestra” was unveiled to an admiring audience during its launch concert at Uniting Church Hall in Kingaroy last Saturday.

The Young Orchestra was originally established in 2019 with funding from the Red Earth Community Foundation and the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal (FRRR).

The rebranding was decided to more accurately reflect the composition of the orchestra – which serves as the gateway to SBCO.

There are young musicians as well as the greatest who have not touched an instrument for years.

There are also a few musicians from SBCO who explore different instruments.

The first concert included performances of “New York, New York”, “Pink Panther” by Henry Mancini and “Minnie The Moocher”.

The plan is for the Pop Orchestra to play popular, 20th century classics and other contemporary music.
