Music is a particularly important part of our lives. We listen to it at home, in cars and even in some elevators, but do we really take the time in our busy lives to enjoy the joys of classical music? From the serene calm of Chopin’s Nocturne Op.9 No.2 to the thrill and excitement of the third movement of Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata, there is something for everyone. If the incredible variety of music isn’t enough to convince you, there are some hidden benefits to listening to this kind of music.

First, listening to classical music can lower blood pressure. Blood pressure is the root cause of many life-threatening health problems, such as heart disease, heart attacks, and strokes. Since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, the death rate from heart attacks has doubled. Healthy lifestyle choices alongside some classical music can help prevent these diseases. A study conducted by the University of Oxford found that participants who listened to classical music for 25 minutes significantly reduced their blood pressure. This is due to the lack of lyrics, changes in volume and rhythm as well as harmonies which are not too exciting. These conditions are met by a multitude of classic songs, unlike many pop songs which do not even meet the first condition.

Second, listening to classical music can reduce stress levels. In a world where our jobs can even reach home workers, stress levels are higher than ever. Not only adults, but also students. Students are more stressed than ever at the moment and classical music can help while reducing stress. Classical music lowers cortisol levels in the body according to a study conducted. Moreover, students can also benefit from it when studying. The Mozart effect is the effect of listening to Mozart while studying. Research has shown that students who listened to Mozart while studying slowly increased their IQ. It also improves concentration, so while reviewing classical music can be especially helpful.

Last but not least, listening to classical music is a pleasant experience. It can be calming, exciting, moving, etc. The joys of classical music are enriching and limitless. From every era there is a plethora of musical geniuses with their own unique style of music. There are also many rooms for a variety of instruments, with each instrument bringing a different tone to each room. So, go discover the joys of classical music.
