This concert marks the debut of the Venezuelan conductor with the Philadelphia Orchestra Raphael Payare, Music Director of the San Diego Symphony Orchestra and Designated Music Director of the Orchester symphonique de Montréal. Payare opens the program with the turbulent and always popular Opening of the Roman Carnival through Hector Berliozbased on themes from his opera Benvenuto Cellini.

Antonin DvorakThe monumental Symphony No. 7 in D Minor – a work of startling grandeur, brilliant orchestral color, compelling melodies and elevated drama – concludes the concert.

Between the two, the virtuosity of the solo clarinetist of the Philadelphia Orchestra Ricardo Morales is brilliantly presented at the world premiere of a playful new concerto written for him in 2020 by the American composer Jacob Banks. The work expresses all aspects of the bubbling personality and musical mastery of the soloist.

We’ll also bring you chamber music by Dvorak, donated by musicians from the Philadelphia Orchestra to accompany a USCIS naturalization ceremony in 2021, as part of the orchestra’s “Our City, Your Orchestra” initiative. .
